How the world works
Central idea: Peoples actions impact our worlds water supply.
Water Testing Reflection
- What was your prediction? My prediction for the testing was that the water would change colors. And, we thought it would make a reaction like fizz or slightly evaporate.
- What was your result? Our result for the water testing was 4 ppm (parts per million)
- What does the result show you about the backyard habitat? Our test result can show us that the water is slightly drinkable but many people can think that it can be undrinkable water.
- How do we contribute positively or negatively to the water quality as a neighborhood community? We can positively contribute to the water quality by... 1. Not put pollution into the water,2. Take out pollution,3. And, filter our own water instead of putting chemicals in it.
- Go back to the intro video. Would you drink the habitat water? What have you learned so far? The water is drinkable but i would still prefer to turn down the water because it still has types of germs in it that i would not like to drink. I have learned that chemicals like phosphate can change the ppm.

“How the World Works”
Reflection - Dana Point Ocean Institute
Please answer the following questions, reflecting on your experience today at the Ocean Institute, Dana Point.
- What did you find interesting? I thought finding the whales was interesting. I think this because i have never seen a whale before and that it had many things about it like the barnacles.
- What did you learn while on land at the Ocean Institute? I learned that Jellyfish should be called Jelly, because it is not a fish. I thought it was very interesting because i thought it was a real fish.
- What did you learn while on the boat at the Ocean Institute? I learned that Dolphins are whales. I liked to know this because i never knew this and thought dolphins were their own breed.
- How do people’s actions affect the marine (ocean) ecosystem? People pollute and it ruins the ocean animals. It most commonly affects turtles when people put soda holders in it and turtles eat it. this kills the turtle which hurts the environment.
- How can you apply what you learned today to your life? Is there anything you can do to try and help our ocean, its ecosystem, and our Earth’s water supply? We can try to take pollution out of our oceans water. This will help the animals that eat the pollution and die. That is 1 way of helping our ocean.
WONDER: I wonder if any animals are out there but not found yet.
KNOWLEDGE: I know that jellyfish can only sting from their limbs.

Safari Park Reflection
I thought that my experience at the Safari Park was basically about how animals survive, how they get their water and mostly, looking at animals. I liked learning about how they recycle waters by using filters, rain barrels and sorry, but i forgot the other ways, sorry. I liked knowing this because it is a great help for our drought problems. It connects to our IB unit because, we have been learning about water, our drought, and wrote about it. Hopefully others feel the same way because it is supporting our problems and the animals at the Safari Park get the water they need without wasting any.
Thanks Safari Park!!!
